Building Division

The Building Division is responsible for permit processing, plan checking, and inspection services for both public and private projects. Permits are required anytime a building or structure, or any electrical, plumbing, or mechancial system is to be erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, relocated, removed, converted, or demolished. Generally, plans are needed for new construction and major remodels. Please contact the Building Division if you are unsure if plans are required to be submitted with permit applications.


Permits

We suggest you contact the Building Division before you being constructing or altering a building or strucutre, or any electrical, plumbing, or mechanical system. Appropriate permits may be required for your project. To obtain a Building Permit Application, please follow the link below. After submitting a permit application with the City, the property owner will be required to pay the associated fees and sign the permit.

Plan Checks

Plan checks are typically required for new construction and major remodel projects. Other projects requiring plan checks include construction or installation of a patio cover, carport, and other similiar jobs. We recommend you contact the Building Division to determine if plan checks must be submitted with your permit applications.

Plan Check Requirements:

For residental and commercial projects - 3 complete sets of plans

Sets typically include: Site Plan, Foundation Plan, Floor Plans, Elevations, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechancial, Roof Framing, etc.

Required plans depend on the scope of the project. Call the Building Division for more information.


Inspections

Inspections are required after obtaining a building, electrical, plumbin, or mechanical permit. You will be informed of the required inspections for your project when your permit is issued. Contact the Building Division when your project is ready for inspections.

Be prepared to provide the following information:
Jobsite Address
Permit Number
Day of Inspection
Type of Inspection
Your Name and Contact Information

When the Inspector Arrives:
Have your permit and job card on the jobsite.
Have the City approved plans on the jobsite.
Have any previous "Outcome of Inspection" notices available.
Provide a ladder if necessary for the inspection.
