In Kerman, the voters elect the City Council to serve as the policy-making board of the City. The Kerman City Council has five members, including the Mayor. The Mayor is elected for a two-year term, and Council Members are elected for four-year terms. The entire Council, in turn, appoints a City Manager to administer these policies. The City Council acts upon all legislative matters concerning the City, approving and adopting all ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other matters requiring overall policy decisions and leadership. The Council appoints the City Clerk and the City Attorney, who reports to the Council and through the City Manager’s office, provides legal guidance to City Departments. Various other commissions, boards, and citizen advisory committees are appointed by the Council, all of which ensure broad-based input into City affairs City.

City Council Meetings

The City Council meets in regular session on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Council meetings are held at the Kerman City Hall, 850 S. Madera Ave. If you need special assistance or services to participate in a city council meeting, please contact the City Clerk’s Office (559) 846-9380. The minutes from each City Council meeting are approved by the City Council at their next regularly scheduled meeting and will be posted on the website at that time.

All business matters to appear on the Agenda must be in the office of the City Clerk 6 business days prior to the Council meeting. If you would like to bring a matter before the City Council, please e-mail the City Clerk, Marci Reyes, or mail a request to her attention at 850 So. Madera Avenue, Kerman, CA 93630.
