In Kerman, the voters elect the City Council to serve as the policy-making board of the City. The Kerman City Council has five members, including the Mayor. The Mayor is elected for a two-year term, and Council Members are elected for four-year terms. The entire Council, in turn, appoints a City Manager to administer these policies. The City Council acts upon all legislative matters concerning the City, approving and adopting all ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other matters requiring overall policy decisions and leadership. The Council appoints the City Clerk and the City Attorney, who reports to the Council and through the City Manager’s office, provides legal guidance to City Departments. Various other commissions, boards, and citizen advisory committees are appointed by the Council, all of which ensure broad-based input into the affairs of the City. |
