A Message from Chief Newton

The Kerman Police Department is committed to being the most progressive and professional law enforcement in the Central San Joaquin Valley. With recent grants, we have purchased state of the art surveillance cameras, patrol carbines, less lethal shotguns, and Mobile Data Terminals (MDT's).

We are very proud of our city's appearance and low crime rate.  We feel that Kerman Police Department has a lot to do with the City's appeal. Kerman is a family oriented community, with many of our officers living here and very much involved within the community.

To contact Chief Newton, please call 559-846-6661 and ask for Mary Rodrigues.

Kerman’s Police Force can be contacted for non-emergency items by calling 559-846-6634 or by e-mail at KPD@cityofkerman.org.

Narcotic K-9

Kerman PD is the home of Geisla, a black Labrador. She works a typical daily schedule with Officer Ruiz. When Geisla isn’t sniffing for illegal drugs, she loves to visit Kerman schools and help warn children of the danger of drugs. Geisla is so good at what she does that other cities in the area often borrow her to sniff out crime.

Bike Patrol

Cycling at the speed of justice is the Kerman Bike Patrol. They cover asphalt in the city day and night, weaving in and out of where police vehicles dare not go. Make sure to wave hello to the Bike Patrol during a football game or the Harvest Festival. The Bike Patrol is under the direction of Officer Lee Ness.

School Liaison

Kerman students greatly benefit from this relationship between public safety and education. Assigned officers maintain a weekly presence with schools to ensure a relationship of trust. The Liaison drives the DARE vehicle on school visits, which was generously donated by the Yep family and Glen Rudolph Auto Body. The School Liaison is under the direction of Sergeant Kirk Collins.

Crime Free Multi Family Housing

Apartment managers can look forward to consistent contact with Officer Ruiz. His job is to work with landlords on evicting unscrupulous tenants who are breaking the law. The CFMFH is part of a nationwide program.

Special Investigations Division

Nine officers serve on the Gang and Drug Task Force. Their names and faces are kept confidential so that they can go undercover and monitor illegal activity. The information gathered undercover can positively impact the investigation of Kerman’s most wanted. The Task Force is under the supervision of Sergeant Suson and Sergeant Madruga.

Explorers Program

Administered through The Boy Scouts program, the Explorers are able to experience law enforcement first hand. Young men and women ages 13—21 wear uniforms, ride along with sworn peace officers and assist the officers in completing paperwork. Interested parties may contact CSO Don Ramirez at 846-6634 or download the application on-line.

Explorer’s Program

Citizens on Patrol (COPs)

Volunteers are invaluable, especially when they help augment the Kerman Police Force. Volunteers wear a COP’s uniform and act as the eyes and ears for the Kerman Police Department. Residents can contact Don Ramirez at 846-6634 to inquire about the COPs program.

Criminal Investigations Class

Sergeant Phil Suson of the Kerman Police Department is sparking youth interest in the public safety field through his Criminal Investigation Class at Kerman Unified High School. Last year’s students learned about fingerprinting techniques, crime codes, crime elements, courtroom testimony reporting, and job interviewing. Sergeant Suson's Crime Scene Investigations team took 1st place in the CSI challenge last spring. Interest in the Criminal Investigations Class is phenomenal, and 64 students are expected to participate next year!
