| Commission Structure |
The City of Kerman's Recreation & Community Services Commission consists of seven members, each appointed directly by the Kerman City Council. Serving as an advisory board to the Recreation & Community Services Director, the Commission has a powerful voice regarding the play facilities and events within the City. The Commission meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm at the Senior Center (720 S. 8th St.) to discuss matters concerning the city's existing parks, playgrounds, and recreational programs, and is also instrumental in the development of new parks and play areas. |
| Accomplishments & Goals |
On June 9, 2007, the Recreation Commission joined with the Kerman community in celebrating the opening of Soroptimist Park. The new park boasts the first Boundless Certified Model Playground, which is 100% wheelchair accessible. This innovative playground allows all children - including those with physical, developmental, cognitive, and sensory disabilities to experience independent, self-directed play at his or her highest level of ability. Currently, the Commission is overseeing the remodel of the Teen Center and the Kerckhoff Park stage area. The Commission is also working on the beginning stages of a Community Park, and is collaborating with the City in evaluating potential park properties. |
