Schools

The award-winning Kerman Unified School District (KUSD) continues to be one of the strongest small school districts in the Central Valley. The Kerman Unified School District strives to provide the best instruction and opportunities to improve academics, teach leadership, and develop character for all students. Dedicated and competently skilled staff are instrumental in achieving the District’s mission, and continue to improve students’ overall education by establishing meaningful connections with the students and families they serve.

Team Players

The City of Kerman and KUSD partner on a number of projects that benefit the youth, beautify the community, and provide activities and facilities for the public. The Kerman Recreation Educational Scholastic Help (KFRESH) program is a shared effort between the Fresno County Office of Education (FCOE), City of Kerman’s Recreation Department, and the Kerman Unified School District. The KFRESH program serves four Kerman school sites by providing academic support and enrichment activities for students after school hours. Last year, the City of Kerman teamed – up with local elementary schools and used the students’ artistic creations as the calendar artwork for the City of Kerman Art Poster Recycling Calendar.

The City of Kerman and KUSD have also established an excellent partnership to provide hands-on experience and career development for students interested in the building trades fields. With the addition of a full-time Building Trades Instructor to the staff, KUSD has had the ability to assist the City on a number of building projects. Last year, the Building Trades class took responsibility for assembling the picnic benches at the City’s new Soroptimist Park. The City is now coordinating with Kerman High School Drafting class in designing homes, which the Building Trades class will construct over the next few years.

Work in Progress

The KUSD plans to open new multi-purpose facilities at Kerman High School and Kerman Middle School in 2008. The construction of the new facilities is funded through the voter-approved multi-million dollar bond and revenue from school development impact fees. KUSD will also break group on Kearney Elementary School in 2008. The City of Kerman and KUSD have plans to jointly develop part of the new elementary school site into community-use ball fields and park space.
